The Flood

The Flood

I had this dream last night that I was standing in front of this house that was being flooded with water. The strange part about the dream was that the homes that surrounded me were not being flooded. All my neighbors were fine and one of my neighbors said to me, “you will be fine too.” I found that odd and calmly responded, “but there are alligators in this water.” Not exactly sure what the dream meant but I did learn a lesson. Oftentimes, in life we feel overwhelmed almost like we are being flooded with problems. To the outside world, we project an image of having it all together even when there is a flood going on around us. Those around us believe we are okay because we look okay. But internally, you know that there are alligators in that water lurking just beneath the surface where the outsiders can’t see. Standing in that murky alligator filled water is down right uncomfortable. However, rather than project an image of weakness, we stand there calmly in a dangerous situation too afraid to ask for help. Being vulnerable is pretty scary for most of us. But at some point, we all need a little help. When that time comes be humble enough and vulnerable enough to ask for it. After all, swimming alone with alligators could end up in disaster.
